Entered company service 17 February 1917. Enlisted in July 1940 and was, according to the staff magazine, a commando. He was reported missing after the invasion of New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) by the Japanese and it was later assumed that he lost his life, along with over a thousand others, on the Montevideo Maru on which he was travelling as a prisoner of war, was torpedoed by the USA Submarine Sturgeon. His obituary in the staff magazine reads "A very fine sportsman, we mourn the loss of a good friend and loyal colleague, and we offer our deepest sympathy to his family and hope that they will take comfort in the fact that he gave his life for his country."
