In 1876 Commercial Union confirmed R P Thomas as agent for Cardigan based at Aberystwyth and by 1895 a number of our other companies were operating in the town. By this date Commercial Union had six Aberystwyth agents and other Aviva companies with agencies included Northern Assurance, Union Assurance and Hand-in-Hand, whose agent was William Reynolds.
In 1925 General Accident opened a sub office there under Mr S E Snell. "Three rooms on the ground floor" were rented at 16 Chalybeate Street. The branch was still operating from the same address in 1950 when Mr Snell retired and the rental of the office space was recorded as £50 pa.
