Blackpool is yet another Olympic flame stop with very few references in the Aviva Archive. We know that by 1868 Norwich Union Life was represented there by David Rae.
The next reference in the archive appears over half a century later when Scottish Union and National opened a new branch at Empress Buildings, 91 Church Street under resident inspector Frank Isherwood.
By 1932 Ocean Accident was at 2 Queen Street...
...and Employers Liability was at 87a Church Street under resident inspector W Proctor.
General Accident's resident inspector for Blackpool by this date was A H Walker at 14 Queen Street...
...and Commercial Union's local resident Inspector, J Leslie, was at 98 Church Street.
Commercial Union's records provide us with our only Blackpool photograph, below, taken at the opening of their new premises in 1975.
Sadly I don't know the address of the new branch offices - I would love to hear from anyone who knows where it was or who knows more about our history in Blackpool.
