Less than a month after the outbreak of the First World War, Joseph Marius Chazalette was killed in action. Chazalette had previously worked for L'Abeille Compagnie d'assurances, an Aviva constituent company, and his death marks the first of many former employees who lost their lives in the conflict. Their names are recorded here, in remembrance, on the hundredth anniversary of their death.
Following on from the story of Leslie Long in the Great Escape, Aviva's Chairman, Sir Adrian Montague, wrote this blog for staff to share his experiences of attending the memorial events in Poznan and Zagan.

If you would like to find out about some of our staff who flew with the RAF, including air aces, Battle of Britain pilots, and a man who took part in the great escape, then read on.

Over 6,000 members of our staff went to fight for their country, some of them left jobs not very different from those we do today and some from offices we still occupy. In this blog I want to share the experiences of just a few of these men as they left their desks for the battlefield.
