'On the chariot he drove was the word Bonus'
This small cartoon illustrates a short story published in the Guarantee Society's staff magazine, the Guarantee Rag; the story is entitled 'That which passeth all understanding, or the chronic tale of four nights'. The story recalls four dreams that centre on the protagonist's hopes and fears concerning his bonus. In this first dream, disaster strikes as 'the power of his chariot did wither and he was undone and a great cloud enveloped him' (vol 4:1, f.17).
